Produced by: Steffen Vogt (2001)

The initial stage of the project was partly funded by a grant of the Federal State of Baden-Wuerttemberg (Germany) under its GRAFÖG programme.

In Februray 2001 the project was introduced on King George Island. Presentations were given at the bases of the island. This was a perfect opportunity to promote the project among many of the people working on the island. The voyage to King George Island was possible due to an invitation by Instituto Antartico Chileno - muchas gracias al INACH for this great support of the KGIS project.

Substantial parts of the KGIS developments have been funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft as part of the SPADA project under contracts GO/317/9-1 and GO/317/9-2.

In May/June 2002 and March/April 2004 the implementation of the SCAR Feature Catalogue in the KGIS project was developed jointly with the staff of the Australian Antarctic Data Centre at the Australian Antarctic Division. Thanks mates for your hospitaly and the stimulating discussions! Thanks also for your help in linking to the SCAR RiSCC database, and the SCAR map catalogue and the support for the Gazetteer Project. These activities have been supported by SCAR travel funds.

In November 2004 the project was granted a 5000 Euro donation through the University of Freiburg Media Award for its open source and open standards based interactive Mapviewer. The contributions of Armin Waespy and Dr. Klaus Braun to the development of the interactive KGIS mapviewer are greatly acknowledged.

Finally, without the generous data sharing of the SCAR KGIS partners the whole project would not be possible. Have a look at the Partners page for a complete list.
