Rookeries of Chinstrap penguins (Pygoscelis antarctica) can be found all along the coast of King George Island and on the surrounding isles.
Chinstrap penguins are the second-most abundant penguin species in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic regions.

In the spirit of SCAR to stimulate the freedom of exchange of Antarctic scientific and environmental data and to encourage co-operation among national Antarctic programmes the project is based on the willingness of the nations active on the island to share the data of common interest.
The project is open to all interested institutions and contribution of spatial data sets is very welcome.
